Sustainable Logistics

The "Green Supply Chain" project consists in the creation of a standard simulation-based decision support system for the design and planning of sustainable supply chains according to a new organization based on the various mechanisms of collaboration: mutualization consolidation and massification.

To achieve this, we intend to draw on a new logistics network organization that breaks with current practices and has been proposed in recent years: the Physical Internet (PI for short) initiated by Benoit Montreuil in 2006. The main idea behind this logistics network of the future is to offer a range of logistics services to supply chain players, with the same interoperability and ease-of-use properties that the Internet offers to today's IT networks. The aim is to offer a logistics network that is open and shared by all logistics players, based on a layered structure of standardized services and ad-hoc equipment. The decision support system we want to develop includes both: a simulation kernel with a very wide range of applicability, representing one or more virtual logistics chains based on the IP principle; and a design and planning module at strategic, tactical and operational levels, featuring optimization algorithms coupled with reactive behavioral mechanisms. In line with IP requirements, the basic component of this simulation kernel will be the active container.
