Human and Life Sciences (SHV)

The Department of Human and Life Sciences (SHV) brings together researchers from different disciplines dealing with human aspects of movement.

Presentation

Researchers there examine disorders and disturbances of motor function with the goal of optimizing it. Others focus on studying the cognitive, emotional and motor components of decision making.

The VHS Department has strong collaborations with clinical partners and in particular with various functional rehabilitation centers. These links allow it to have access to specific populations, particularly those with locomotor disabilities. Moreover, in view of local, national and international contexts, the strengths of this Department have focused on human mobility , an essential factor of well-being and social inclusion.

A multidisciplinary department

One of the main strengths of the SHV Department is thus based on its multidisciplinarity : it is essentially based on Biomechanics, Neurophysiology and Psycho-Ergonomics, which means that the human can be apprehended via a systemic model, based on the bio-psycho-social approach. The research of this department focuses on the analysis and modeling of the control of human activities, from decision making to motor action. To do so, the SHV Department can rely on different experimental platforms of high technologies.

A strong link between research and training

In addition, the SHV Department provides a very strong Research-Training link in particular, it constitutes a solid bridge between the LAMIH UMR CNRS 8201 and the training courses in Sciences and Techniques of Physical and Sports Activities (STAPS) of the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF), training delegated to the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées Hauts-de-France (INSA HDF).
