"Territorial and national economic impacts of sports mega-events: the case of the 2024 Olympic Games"
In recent years, France and the Hauts-de-France region have organized several major sporting events or mega-events. The Davis Cup final, matches at Euro 2016, the 2023 Rugby World Cup and the basketball and handball events for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The aim of the thesis will be to demonstrate, through regressions, the influence of mega-events on sports practice and local tourism and its economic impact through the theoretical concept of the "Tourism Led Growth Hypothesis". To achieve this, a study will be carried out on a regional scale and on an international scale based on a gravity model. The first will study the influence of the Olympic Games on the arrival of visitors from the various French regions, through various factors specific to the gravity model in addition to factors specific to the regions (historical links in particular, GDP, population). The second will be a model showing the impact of major sporting events in different host countries, with the aim of determining and comparing the impact of these events in these destinations
