CPER ECRIN

Environment Climate Research and Innovation

ECRIN objectives

The CPER ECRIN (Environnement Climat - Recherche et Innovation) project for the period 2021-2027 brings together 36 partners including 26 research laboratories in the Hauts-de-France region. Its objectives are to better understand how climate change and, more broadly, environmental changes (air quality, water quality...) linked to human activities, affect our health and biodiversity. Its approach is based on observing changes in our environment to propose adequate adaptation or mitigation measures and facilitate the energy and environmental transition (technological innovations, land-use planning policies, support for new collective or individual practices).

A unique consortium

The ECRIN project benefits from the achievements of previous environmental projects, enabling today a unique consortium of laboratories recognized on a national, European and global scale. This multidisciplinary scientific approach combines top-notch fundamental research, interaction with local players and a strategy for transferring innovations to companies. This new dynamic covers disciplinary fields ranging from physical chemistry to health, from biodiversity to urban planning, via the human sciences at the heart of our transitions.

The research program

ECRIN is structured into four strands aimed at:

  • better characterize the physical chemistry of urban environments (effect of transport, industries and buildings) but also peri-urban and rural (effect of distant and nearby sources, of natural and agricultural origin);
  • propose measuresmitigation and adaptation measures appropriate to each of these societal contexts (changes in behavior, mode of transport...)
  • in assessing the impact on human health (through epidemiological, but also experimental approaches), and on ecosystem services (e.g. water quality, pollination service...)
  • strengthen interactions with territorial players and innovation transfers to the private sector, through calls for projects in partnership with industry with a view to developing innovative technologies in a strategy of high environmental performance.
