Legitimacy, between reconfiguration and refoundation" symposium
January 30 and 31, 2025
Are Max Weber's famous principles of legitimacy still relevant today? Numerous recent or recurring facts (riots, institutional crisis, rise of conspiracy, abstention...), revealing deeper disturbances, force us to re-examine the foundations of consent to authority.
This is what this colloquium sets out to examine, questioning two hypotheses: is legitimacy being reconfigured, or is it being refounded? To answer this question, we'll be looking at legitimacy as a principle, as well as recent developments, notably in the international arena (including the European Union), the relationship with the media (in the age of networks and conspiracies) or the environmental imperative, a potential new source of legitimacy.
Nearly thirty speakers will discuss this highly topical subject.
