Valenciennes wins GIM Eolex competition

A national competition
From June 12 to 14, students from the GIM department headed to Annecy to defend the IUT's colors in the GIM Eolex competition, up against 7 other IUTs in France. This is a challenge organized by the IUT GIM departments in partnership with the French Alpine Club. Over the course of the year, each team has to design a discreet, lightweight wind turbine that can be easily dismantled and transported. Some teams design their own wind turbine from start to finish, while others make improvements to small commercial wind turbines.
.The ultimate goal is for these wind turbines to generate electricity to power mountain refuges.
Three days of challenge
On the first day, teams set off from Annecy IUT with their dismantled wind turbines and the equipment they need to climb to the Parmelan refuge. The first teams to reach the refuge have the advantage of choosing the best place to set up their wind turbine. Once in place and secured, they can start producing energy.
.On the second day, students take part in sporting activities while their wind turbines generate energy used for local living. The day ends with a meal at the refuge as on the first day, but also a concert and a conference.
The final day marks the close of the challenge, with the students dismantling the wind turbines and trekking back to the Annecy train station.
Victory for GIM Valenciennes!
The GIM Valenciennes team, equipped with muscle production systems, a photovoltaic panel and a kite wind turbine, succeeded in producing over 3 Mega Joules, leading them to victory. This success was also possible thanks to their participation in sports activities and their first place in a science quiz.
