National competition Race in progress

On the occasion of an intermediate presentation of the projects carried out for the concours Course en cours (academic project review), the GMP department of Valenciennes IUT welcomed 96 students from collèges de Lourches, Cateau-Cambrésis, Fourmies and lycées de Denain et du Pays de Condé.

Based on a high level of commitment and personal investment by the middle and high school students, the competition encourages them to design, manufacture, evaluate, gain self-confidence... It offers them the chance to use a variety of technologies such as mechanics, electronics and programming, and to employ methods and tools identical to those used in industry.

Project stages

The hands-on, fun activities on offer illustrate scientific and technological concepts and give them an insight into the industrial world. Les élèves engagés en équipe de 4 à 6 dans ce challenge national ont une année pour réaliser un prototype de véhicule électrique à échelle réduite.

• At the end of February, 16 teams of middle and high school students presented their project's progress to juries made up of industrialists, STI inspectors (IA-IPR) and teacher-researchers at our GMP department.

• On April 17 and May 23 the academic finals take place at the University of Lille (Villeneuve d'Ascq).
• On May 29, the national final takes place at the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie de la Villette.
  The winner will represent the academy at the national final.

IUT involvement

The academy's three GMP departments (IUT de Valenciennes, IUT de Lille - site de Villeneuve d'Ascq, IUT de Béthune) have mobilized to welcome young people, whose career path could continue within our training courses. By choosing to take part in this competition with a scientific and technological focus, it is highly likely that the host public will be motivated by the B.U.T.. GMP and make up some of our future students...
