Immersion in B.U.T MP ... or how to familiarize yourself with the measurement chain and metrology

As part of the agreement signed with the Lycée Pierre Forest in Maubeuge, the IUT's Mesures Physiques (MP) department welcomed 4 classes of 1ère STI2D, i.e. nearly 70 high school students exploring the campus in Maubeuge.

At the program of the visit...

• Presentation of the training program & meeting with 2 students in their 3rd year of B.U.T.. MP about the internship and work-study training experience. Thanks to Nathan & Pape Gora for taking part!

• "In the shoes of an MP student" activity: students brainstormed in groups about how to instrument a beehive to track its mass over the course of a year. This workshop familiarized them with terms related to the implementation of a measurement chain and to metrology: sensor, converter, signal processing, calibration, data processing.

At the end of the day, the students from Lycée Pierre Forest commented on their visit and told us they had discovered an interesting, multi-disciplinary course of study, which can be followed on a sandwich course and offers versatility and employability.

An interesting choice, then, for students in the STI2D technology stream, which further commits high school students to joining the B.U.T. Mesures Physiques after the Bac.
