  • Le 06/04/2023

  • 13:30 - 14:30

The CERAMATHS Mathematics Department seminar will welcome at 1:30 pm Rossana Tazzioli (University of Lille), for the following talk:

Tullio Levi-Civita (1873-1941) and his "school" at the University of Rome

Summary: Initially, I will present Tullio Levi-Civita's scientific work before 1919, the year in which he became professor of Higher Analysis at the University of Rome. I will then focus on his activity as a "master" in Rome, describing in particular his contribution to the advancement of mathematics and physics at his university. Finally, I will show through case studies the influence of his work on differential geometry and tensor calculus in Italy but especially abroad by relying on the scientific correspondence contained in the Levi-Civita archives (Accademia dei Lincei and Ceccherini-Silberstein family).

This seminar will be held online; contact the organizers for the login link
